The Indianapolis Colts shut down their facility Friday morning in the wake of several positive COVID-19 tests.

The team is working remotely as they go through the process of confirming initial test results. Indy is scheduled to host the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

"This morning, we were informed that several individuals within our organization have tested posted for COVID-19," the club said in a statement. "The team is currently in the process of confirming those tests. In the meantime, the practice facility will be closed, and the team will work remotely while following NFL protocols. We are in communication with the NFL and will have more information when available."

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero noted that these are the first COVID-19 issues the Colts have experienced since initial screening in late July.

The outcomes of the retests will likely determine the ability of Sunday's game against the Bengals to go off without a hitch.

Last Friday, the New York Jets closed their facility only to find out they experienced a false positive. Yesterday, the Atlanta Falcons held virtual work after a positive test, but the result was to an assistant coach, not a player, and the team could have resumed work.

Clubs are closing at the first sign of a COVID-19 positive out of an abundance of caution -- a phrase we will continue to hear with increasing emphasis in the coming weeks and months.

The Colts are the latest team to go through the process of gathering the information to determine their next move. Will it be like the Jets, and their game will go on without delay? Will the game need to be pushed a day or two to give the club time to work through the process? Or will we have our next Titans situation and the team will have to shut down for a spell after a rash of positive tests?

Closing the facility is the first step in the NFL and NFLPA protocol to ensure teams stay as healthy as possible, even if a day or two of practice and meetings is interrupted.

NFL CMO Dr. Allen Sills: Players will be held out of practice, games due to flu-like symptoms

NFL chief medical officer Dr. Allen Sills told reporters Thursday that as the country approaches cold and flu season, people can expect to see players, coaches and personnel miss practices and potentially games due to flu-like symptoms in an effort to rule out exposure to COVID-19.

Symptoms such as coughs, sore throats and stuffy noses will be reasons to send someone home for the day, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

"Even if they have a negative [COVID-19] test that day, we're going to hold that individual out of the facility," Sills said.

Sills added: "When in doubt, we're gonna go with the most conservative (approach)."

Sills also said that there has not been an indication of any on-field transmission of the novel coronavirus, per NFL Network's Judy Battista.

The Cleveland Browns sent wide receiver Odell Beckham home from practice Thursday with an illness. Coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters Beckham has not tested positive for COVID-19 thus far, and they had him leave the facility out of an "abundance of caution."

The Atlanta Falcons announced Thursday morning that the team would work remotely that day due to a positive COVID-19 test. Pelissero reported the confirmed positive test was an assistant coach, and the team had the option to return to the facility Thursday afternoon, but the plan is to return Friday.

Colts to reopen practice facility after re-tests come back negative for COVID-19

All is clear in Indianapolis.

Following Friday morning's positive COVID-19 tests that caused the Colts to close the facility and work virtually, the team's re-tests all came back negative.

"Earlier this morning, we were informed that four individuals with the organization tested positive for COVID-19," the club said in a statement. "The Four positive samples were re-tested and have been confirmed negative. After Consultation with the NFL and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Allen Sills, the team will open the practice facility this afternoon under the league's intensive protocol and will continue preparation for Sunday's game against Cincinnati."

The Colts host the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. The game will go on as scheduled following the false positives.

The Colts haven't had any COVID issues since the start of training camp in late July.

Per league protocol, teams are closing facilities at the first sign of positive COVID-19 results out of an abundance of caution until re-testing is done. Like we saw last week with the New York Jets, the Colts got a swift all-clear.

The Atlanta Falcons also announced Friday that announced they have resumed in-person work under the NFL's supplemental intensive protocols. Atlanta's game Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings remains on as scheduled after the Falcons reported no new positive tests from Thursday's round of testing.

As of Friday, the Week 6 slate of games appears on track to be played as planned after two weeks of reworked schedules due to COVID-19 positives.

False positives are running rampant it seems.......

False positives seem to be 50% of the cases in these sports leagues... the thing is, they're using the best technology.

And every day citizens don't get a round 2 test. They test positive and wait for 2 weeks. I wonder how many of these national positive tests are false positives.

When fruits like an avocado can test positive for Covid, I don't think it matters what technology is used, for whatever reason, it's testing positive when there is no virus......hence, a lot of false positives out there to answer your question.

So how many players died?

What will you be saying, if anything, if one of more NFL, MLB, NCAAF, NHL, NBA, etc, players does die?

Or suffer long term negative health consequences, e.g. such that would end a career?

From the Indy Star:
Under the agreement between the NFL and the NFL Player’s association, players, coaches and essential staff are tested daily; the league reported earlier this week that more than 400,000 tests have been run in the NFL this season.
False positives have affected several players and teams this season. Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford had a false positive test returned during training camp, the New Orleans Saints have had four separate false positives spread over multiple weeks and in one case, a problem with a New Jersey laboratory caused 77 tests across the league to come back false, briefly shutting down several team facilities around the NFL.

As i said:

False positives are quite rare. False negatives are more common:
